Graanul Invest Sustainability Report 2025 shows solid progress across emissions, operations, and regulatory readiness.
The report reflects a year of delivery. Projects launched in 2024 are now starting to show measurable results, especially in carbon efficiency, renewable energy use, and overall operational performance.
Pellet production increased by around 15% compared to the previous year, supported by improved raw material availability and a more balanced market. At the same time, pellet carbon intensity decreased to 6.39 gCO₂e/MJ – the strongest result to date.
The company also made progress in logistics and energy systems. Vessel upgrades improved transport efficiency and reduced fuel use, while investments in flue gas condensers and battery storage are starting to play a bigger role in how the system works as a whole – environmentally and economically.
From a compliance perspective, 2025 was an important step forward. Graanul Invest transitioned to SBP Standards 2.0, integrated RED III requirements into normal operations, and prepared for upcoming EUDR data requirements.
At the same time, the company notes that while progress is clear, safety performance remains an area where expectations are higher and further improvements are needed.
Mihkel Jugaste CSO
“2025 has been about delivery. A lot of what we set in motion earlier is now showing up in real results across emissions, operations, and compliance.
What stands out more and more is how these improvements are linking across the value chain. Better sourcing, more efficient logistics, and stronger production performance are no longer separate efforts – they are starting to reinforce overall performance and contract execution.
That is where the real impact comes from. When the whole system works better together, you not only reduce emissions, but also improve resilience and create more value. That puts us in a strong position when approaching new contracts and future developments.”
Lars Christian Bacher CEO
“The past year reinforced how important reliability and efficiency are in today’s energy system. Our role is to deliver solutions that support both climate targets and energy security. The progress in 2025 shows that our approach – combining responsible sourcing, flexible operations, and low-carbon performance – is heading in the right direction.”
Outlook
Looking ahead, the environment will continue to become more demanding. Regulation, system complexity and expectations on transparency are all increasing.
This is not new to us. The difference now is that many of the capabilities required to operate in this environment are no longer under development, they are already part of how we work.
Europe’s drive for energy independence and more flexibility in its grid system will result in more homegrown firm power. Energy production based on sustainable wood pellets is available, scalable and cleaner than ever.
